podcast love: the age of persuasion

Rarely do I get excited about the radio.  Admittedly I often listen to the terrible top 40 stations that no one will admit to, but still, even when I venture over to the CBC I'm not jumping-up-and-down excited.  The exception is on Thursday's when The Age of Persuasion comes on.

This show (also a podcast) is all about the inner workings of the advertising business.  Not necessarily a lesson on how to better market your products, but more of a lesson on the psychological tactics used by marketers throughout the ages.  More often than not the stories are focused on a bygone era of Madison Avenue, but every once in a while the host will slip in an anecdote about a more current campaign.  If you enjoy the advertising aspect of Mad Men you will adore this show.

I tried my darnedest to figure out how to embed a couple episodes on the blog but the computer savvy part of my brain is on vacation right now.  So instead, here are some links to some of my favourite recent episodes:

I'm not 100% sure that it will stream for those outside of Canada, but I would bet (Monopoly) money that it does.  If all else fails the podcasts are available on iTunes.
