the (baked) goods: a thoroughly chocolate cake

Oh sweet chocolate cake, you have no idea how much I need you today.  I was hoping it would be one of those easy breezy days, but instead the rain is falling, the to-do list is full and by the end of the day my face will be buried in this thing.

If you follow me on Twitter you might know that I was recently hired to bake my first paid cake.  Wooot!  Actually, I offered to make it for free if the ingredients were paid for, but they were insistent.  Besides, who am I to fight the money man?

Friday afternoon I baked up a cake that looked a lot like this one.  The boy hovered over me in the kitchen asking when it would be ready for ''testing''.  You should have seen the sad puppy eyes when I sent him out of the room with none.  And I have to admit that I was a little curious too.  I mean, Ina Garten that this recipe made her favourite chocolate cake.

So today when I was stumped about what to bake, stressed about my crazy life and craving some serious chocolate, I thought Heyyyy, why don't we do the deja vu?

I switched up the frosting and went with this recipe (minus 1 cup of sugar).  The suggested frosting from the cake recipe tasted fantastic, but the consistency was far too spreadable.

And you know what?  It is really good!  I think I'm going to have to make this my go-to recipe for chocolate cake.  The ingredient list is simple, it takes no time to prepare and it's super bouncy and moist.  Love it!

I should warn you - the cake batter is soupy.  When you pour it into the pan you might be worried.  Allow me to ease your mind - it's going to be okay delicious.

Have you been baking anything awesome this week?  Have an amazing recipe to share?  I'm always looking for suggestions!
