fp: pot holders

It feels like forever since I've had a real crafting post; so I'm pretty excited to share this project today.

Weeks ago I signed up for a pot holder swap over on a stitch in dye. And true to form, I had no idea what I was doing. You see, this is what I do. I commit myself to projects that I am not entirely sure I can successfully complete. Thank goodness a pot holder is a relatively simple craft. After the week I've had anything at all difficult may have had me belly-flopping over the edge.

By far one of the best parts of this project is that it's a total scrap buster. A-ma-zing!

And it's lots of fun to choose fancy colour and pattern combos.

I loved stitching right onto the batting. Loved it! Looking quilty already.

You'll have a awesomely cool pot holder in no time. Just need to clean up those raw edges.

And we're done!

Ohhh, and they're backed with linen. I'm in love!

By the way, I salvage all of my linen from thrifted clothing. I'm way too frugal to buy off the bolt linen.

That adorable sewing themed twill tape is from a package I received from Green Pickles. So pretty and so lovely to iron.

If you'd like to see more pot holders from this amazing swap, check out the 2010 Great Potholder Swap photo gallery on Flickr.

I really enjoyed this new crafty endeavour. I think I'll have to make a few more sets for myself and friends.

Have you created anything new lately? I'd love to hear all about it (add a link in the comments if you blogged it)!
