tutorial: diy laundry soap

Originally posted January 14, 2010

The laundry soap pail is empty and its high time to refill it. I thought I'd take a moment to share my favourite "recipe" with you all.

I started making my own soap about seven months ago after finding it way too frustrating to find an affordable green and fragrance free option. We do copious amounts of washing and it was becoming far to expensive to buy soap week after week.

Now a load of laundry only costs about 6 cents per load (as compared to the 60 cents it was costing with the store-bought option).

Below is my favourite recipe, but check out this link for more d.i.y. concoctions.

12 cups Borax
8 cups Baking Soda
8 cups Washing Soda
8 cups Bar soap (grated)

Mix all ingredients well and store in a sealed tub. Use 1/8 cup of powder per full load.
